Day 16: "We all live in a yellow submarine" (Lahaina, Maui)

Lahiaina doesn’t have a port, so we had to tender in to shore (ie take little boats in). This might have been good if the crew wasn’t running 45 minutes late, so that we actually missed our tour.
So not a good start.

After a fair bit of stress we managed to organise a later tour for the Atlantis Submarine reef dive, and used the morning to wander around Lahaina. It’s a bit of a tourist town, but a surprisingly cool tourist town. We were finally able to get a decent cup of coffee and bought a number of shirts (I am the proud owner of a new Hawaiian shirt that sets new standards in garishness, even for me). To complete the authentic Hawaiian experience we had a Chicago-style deep dish pizza for lunch.
Despite the dramas organising the tour, the actual sub dive was incredible. It’s a real honas’-ta-gawd subbarine (if you look at the photo through a glass of beer it even looks yellow), seats about 36, and dove down to 133 feet.

The pics are all a bit blue as only blue light makes it down this far, and the underwater shots are all a bit grainy - but the memories are keepers.

Sail out conditions were perfect weatherwise, so we decided to tough it out by soaking in the hot tub on the back of the ship before struggling to down a few drinks.

In the end the biggest problem with Maui was too little time. This one is on our list of Places To Come Back To.

Hello Brian and Emma! Great to talk to you both this morning and what a surprise - I still can't believe that I've now spoken to family in Bora Bora. You sound as though you're having an amazing time and I'm glad that Emma's now over the worst of her cold.

Having got caught up on your blog site, I can quite honestly say I've got shoe envy! But watch out Emma, Michaela and Coralie will be able to fit into your shoes in the not too distant future!

Here's the wicked recipe and hope it rates well:

Divine Lemon Pots (Serves 8)

600ml (1 pint) pouring double cream
150g (5oz) caster sugar
finely grated zest and juice of 3 lemons
16 fresh raspberries
3 tbsp brandy

Heat the cream, sugar and lemon zest in a wide-based pan over a low heat until at simmering point. Stir continuously for about 3 minutes.

Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly (until lukewarm).

Mix the lemon juice and brandy with the cooled cream and sugar, and stir.

Pour the lemon cream into 8 individual cups. Transfer to the fridge to set for a minimum of 2 hours. Arrange 2 raspberries on top of each pot when the cream has set.

Enjoy!!

We're heading out for some sunshine and exercise ourselves now, and perhaps even a swim - although Coralie has already braved the surf at Queenscliff this morning. She looks really cute in her Nippers attire!

BTW, now that Australia has been booted out of the World Cup, feel free to barrack as loud as you like for Scotland!!!

Continue to have a fabulous time and have a cocktail for me!

LOL, Ali xxxx
